• However, we locally store your notes on the phone, so when we are out of read-only mode, your notes will sync again. You just won’t be able to view them on the web for a few hours.

Updates:

• Click to edit
• On and off switch for sharing
• Shared notes are now clearly marked if you have shared them or turned on sharing for that specific note. We are changing the status wording from “public note” to “shared note” to avoid confusion. We never index your shared notes anywhere, nor do search engines have access to them.
• The gear icon on the top of your notes allow you to expand, collapse, and reorder your notes (by creation time).
• You can sort by modified, created, daily, weekly, and monthly.
• Clicking on tags allows a popover view of your tags that you can sort by popularity and alphabetical.
• You can now see your location information uploaded by mobile clients that geotag your notes.
• Clicking on the date will expand your note into a single note view.
• The “info” icon next to the date add context to where your note was generated from and any other attached data we detect. Note: We do see “3banana” as the source on notes that weren’t originated from 3banana. We are working on correcting this.
• Comments are now flattened.
• Various cosmetic changes.

We’ve been working hard on our infrastructure and we’re excited to share our other major changes in the upcoming months!

There are two small updates available in the Android Market today for both 3banana and AK Notepad.

3banana Update: Background syncing options. You can now set 3banana to automatically sync at an interval you set. Go into Settings to customize your syncing. (Menu > More > Settings). If you’re frequently jotting down notes on the web and using your phone while on the go, your notes will automatically appear in your notes throughout the day. Remember, you can always press Menu > Sync to download notes from the web.

AK Notepad Update: Bug fix for search. You can now search the title and body of a note. Happy searching!

We are dedicated to helping people capture all the bits of data they come across. Whether it’s from a note, Compass, or whatever app, we want to help you manage what’s important to you and keep it in one place.

Some people simply want a notepad without the extra bells and whistles. If that’s you, AK Notepad is your app.

If you like to take pictures, add context to your notes with geotags, or have a thing for widgets – you’re a 3banana.

Developers, what can you build to inspire people to move?

In support of the Health2.0 Challenge, sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), we’ll be awarding one lucky developer a MacBook Pro and Android phone based on this criteria.

Developers have until September 15th to submit an Android app that inspires physical activity.  You can register here to receive news and updates and you can submit your app here.

We announced our Grand Prize winner of the first leg of the Move Your App! Challenge on May 27th. Congratulations to Peter Ma with his app, PickUp Sports. He’s currently at TED Global 2010 in Oxford representing our challenge and the impact developers have on worthy causes. You can also check out the other finalists here.

The 100-Day-Prize is still happening for the apps submitted in the first leg of our challenge. We will begin judging the apps who have seen the best results in the real world on September 4th, 2010. Apps submitted for this prize do not qualify for the Health2.0 Prize but developers can submit a new app.

This update includes:

• Passcode lock setting

If you set a passcode, 3banana will prompt for it each time you launch the app, or when you click on any of your homescreen-pinned notes. Enable the passcode if you want to keep prying eyes out of your private notebook. You’ll find the option in Settings.

Note: If you enable 3banana Notes as a source in your phone’s global Searchable Items, you’re giving up some privacy. If your notes are sensitive and you use the passcode lock, we recommend disabling 3banana in Searchable Items.

• Reminders

You can set reminders on any of your notes, and the reminder will sync to snaptic.com along with the rest of your note data — so your reminders will automatically work even if you sign out then in again, or use 3banana on a different Android device. Use the Menu key when viewing a note, or long-press on a note, to set, change, or remove a reminder. See Settings to configure the way you are alerted when reminders occur.

• Some visual enhancements

The note list has been freshened up: A new font size option for editing notes and the 3banana widget has been reskinned to match modern Android theming.

• The option to move the app to SD for Froyo (Android 2.2) users.

• New syncing options

In Settings: you can manually enable or disable syncing, and you can elect to only sync over wi-fi (if, for example, you are roaming and want to avoid network data charges).

The update includes other bug fixes and minor enhancements as well. Give it a try, and feel free to send us your feedback!

Congratulations to the Grand Prize Winner

With 246 registered developers from 3 continents and 12 countries, the grand prize winner of the 10 finalists was Peter Ma of Los Angeles, CA with his submission Pickup Sports. He created an Android app that let’s you organize pickup games and allow others to join in. He’ll be representing the Move Your App! challenge at TED Global 2010 in Oxford.

Snaptic Developer Conference

Our first event was a session-packed day with amazing talks that ranged from Android, tools, UI, semantic data, geo, and what’s next. We learned so much from all the speakers and hope it planted a few helpful seeds to all the developers just like us.

The upcoming 100 days

We’re excited to see all the submissions grow in the upcoming 100 days during our long-tail competition. We decided to extend a prize from this challenge to see which app truly inspires movement in the real world. It’s not too late if your app didn’t make the top ten!
